One of the greatest mysteries of the modern tech world is the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the computer programmer some people credits as the creator of bitcoin – a digital currency. Since the creation of cryptocurrency in 2008, nobody has been able to find out exactly who Satoshi Nakamoto is.
Could for example, the name Satoshi Nakamoto be a pseudonym for the man or group of people who created bitcoin? An unseen person or figures whose creations of crypto currency have so dramatically influenced the world.
Satoshi Nakamoto created Bitcoin with the intent to take control of the currency away from financial elites and place it into the hands of ordinary people. Shortly after creating a new currency called bitcoin, Satoshi published a nine-page technical paper outlining how Bitcoin will work.
To be precise, bitcoin’s exact date of creation was purportedly Jan. 3, 2009, when a mysterious inventor hit a button on a keyboard and created a new digital currency.
In 2008, Nick Szabo conceptualized a decentralized currency that he called Bit Gold, the predecessor of bitcoin. Its founder is something of a philosophical figurehead, frequently cited by crypto advocates discussing bitcoin’s future evolution.
Nakamoto is significant in the bitcoin ecosystem outside his role as its founder. The Satoshi Nakamoto Figure matters, regardless of whether Satoshi Nakamoto is one man or one group – not for his (or her) status, but for the contributions that he has made to Bitcoin.
No one truly knows who is behind the name Satoshi Nakamoto, the man credited with developing the first, and largest, world-first, cryptocurrency – bitcoin. While his creation has had quite a rollercoaster ride in terms of skyrocketing prices and popularity in the last couple years, Nakamoto’s identity is still being widely speculated.
Was it Nakamoto’s hope that Bitcoin would become a transactional token widely adopted around the world as a protection against inflation? Bitcoin came into being when Satoshi Nakamoto posted his now-famous whitepaper to the Cryptography Mailing List, outlining bitcoins peer-to-peer transactions secured against any intermediary, be it a government, the financial system, or any corporation.
While we still don’t know much about Satoshi – we do know he was the person who mined Bitcoin’s first block chain, and the person who published the whitepaper on the digital currency.
Comparisons have been made between Australian computer scientist Craig Wright and Satoshi Nakamoto, due to similarities in their writings and concerns, and the substantial contributions that Nick Szabo made in developing Bitcoin.
Could any of these two individuals, separately or collectively be the real Satoshi Nakamoto? Maybe, but probably not, only time will tell.
